I will be visiting family in Vietnam in a few weeks. I want to bring them gifts that they really want, of course they won't say what they want, and I have no idea what to get. It would be for male & female cousins in their mid/late-20's, and also a boy & girl in their early teens. And various Aunts and Uncles. I can't afford expensive but I do want something that's nice for them, from the U.S. I've already gotten a laptop, digital camera and a couple sport watches. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Please be specific with brand names, as I know that's important, I just don't have a clue. Thanks so much!

By the way, do I have to/should I declare all of these gifts when I enter VN?

  1. One Vietnamese friend asked me to bring her perfume. Anoher asked me to bring her something representative of the culture (I got her a simple necklace with reindeer horn, and she loved it). I one of  her daughters  a braclet with horn, and a cell phone mumin (??) thing. I brought a couple of small bottles of "aroma therapy" fragrances and a burner. I have gotten an inexpensive skunk teddy, and they all seemed to be appreciated.

I never had t declare anything going into VN. It is easier for visitors than for returning VN nationals I am sure!

  2. Lots of chocolate, it's expensive over there. Bring a half gallon of Jack Daniels or Wild Turkey bourbon, The men will love you for it. I always bring rechargeable batteries (and charger) as well as board games like Monopoly (a big favorite), Battleship, etc. also frisbee's, wiffle balls/bats, baseball gloves and just lots and lots of toys/sports eqipment for everyone's children. You have to be willing to spend the time necessary to teach them the rules of the games, but it is time well spent.

We often spend hours playing board games with every member of the family either participating or cheering.

Also, bring some playing cards. My family loves to play cards and they always enjoy the American decks.

If you can get an email thru to me I'll fill you in with more stuff. I've been going for years and have brought some truly "original" things (like a Pawley's Island double rope hammock and stand and even a Mini-Moog. try fitting those in your suitcase lol)

There are just so many things that they don't sell in Vn at this time. Just make sure that if you bring electric things, they will accept 220V, if not, you should bring an adapter (or buy one there)

    Enjoy your trip!

  3. My cousins and aunts love perfume, lotion, shampoo due to the quality of the products.

  4. Clothes. Candy....and the most important thing...MONEY.

  5. I recommend you "CANDY" or some kinds of SWEET. Youo know, maybe your relation don't eat them, but they can give them to their friends for present!

Clothes, mobile phone is rather good!

Have a great trip in Vietnam!!!
