I've seen people making jewelary, bows, etc. I really want to do something like that. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. If you want to do it for money, try going to a few local craft fairs and see what isn't there. jewelry is always popular, but it's hard to make be unique with so many people doing it.

==you could try pottery. The tools and kiln are rather pricey, but after that it can cost a few dollars to make a $30 pot. if you can find someone you can pay to use their kiln, great. otherwise 1-2k for kiln, at least $10-$30 for basic tools, and $10 for clay for a couple a pots a piece. if you have a yard, you can build your own kiln: even a simple one like a garbage can, you just have to remember that it will burn a week each time.

==you could try quilting. that costs a lot, but can make a lot too. I thought about going into it and found a cheap quilt can cost $100-$200 for a small simple quilt, but you can sell them for double. you just need a sewing machine and patience. each quilt needs fabric, batting, thread, and if you want beads or floss for embroidery.

==you could try purse making. you can go from using fabric, to old jeans from good-will, or crochet/knitting, fleece, plastic, even old T-shirts. glue (or zig-zag sew fabric) together. add beads and decor, and make a handle (or buy one). get creative! unfortinately, zippers are $2-$5 a piece, if you use those.

==you can paint wood. sounds simple, but you can get really creative with this. if you have a jig-saw, you can cut out an outline such as a dog or animal, paint it, and put some funny tag-line on the bottum. (such as a worm holding a sign saying 'save the worms, eat bird-seeds). there are lots of books (especially at the library) with patterns and painting techniques. you can also paint other things besides wood: gords, paper mache, even CD's!

That's about all the big ones i can think of...

==there's also other crafts people enjoy that make money; canle or soap making, T-shirt painting or dying, wood-working, wood-turning, glass-blowing, stained-glass, paper-making, crochetting, knitting, sewing, bead-working, wire-working, and much more!

  2. Look that you already know you want to learn. Jewelry making is good to take up as a hobby and likely you will be able to sell your creations to friends. You can also sell them on etsy.com , etc or other handmade market.

or for card making which is another wonderful craft to do.

Both you can make and sell and have fun.

  3. For ideas, how-to's, general info check out both the jewelery making section of about.com and also craftster.org

  4. How about quilts.  Check out http://www.appliquequiltdesigns.com.  You can do smaller projects like wall hangings and table runners if you don't want to do bed quilts.
