What are some creative ideas for curbing environmental damage, by using new materiels, etc?

Off the top of my head...

Use bamboo, the papery part of onion and garlic peels to make paper.

Seaweed could be easily manufactured into faux -plastic; for grocery bags, etc.

Wow, those are great ideas I would not have thought of! Some local school districts and the electric company use natural gas in their vehicles. Natural gas is much cheaper than the gas we typically use, plus it's not as problematic in accidents-no spillage and also less hazardous if a potential fire broke out due to an accident.

Bamboo can be used for lots of things and is especially great because it is prolific and fast growing. I know they make it into fabrics and flooring as well as paper. It is also used in decorations.
