My fiance and I are looking for creative ways to name our tables at the reception. One of our friends named them after cities that they visited together and his brother named them after Chinese characters such as Double Happiness and Fertility. We don't want to do the same as them, but we are having a hard time coming up with ideas. To give you some background info about us, we met online 8 years ago, he is a Chinese Scotsman who moved from Scotland here to Chicago to be with me, I am Polish. While we lived apart we travelled alot to see each other. I lived in Scotland for awhile and he lived here. We also went to Australia, London, Spain, Portugal, and Hong Kong together. I'm a school teacher and he's a musician. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you!!!!

  1. Name them after your favorite songs especially the ones that mean something to the both of you.

  2. You could name them after characters in famous love stories (Shakespeare). Or romantic cities (Paris, Niagara Falls, Montreal, etc), If you are having a Christmas wedding, name them after Christmas Carols.

That's all the creativity I have in me.

  3. I think naming them after the places you've visited would be a really nice idea.

I've also seen teachers use miniature black boards placed on pedestals to write the numbers (you could place a different musical symbol on each blackboard as well)

You could also name them after you're favorite songs/musicians.

For our wedding, we named the tables after trails that we've hiked around the U.S.  The front of the table card had the name and the back had a picture with some fun facts about the hike on it.

This is what they looked like:

  4. I seen a wedding that the tables were named with different Disney Movies. It was very cute!

  5. Use some of the places you visited when he first came to Chicago.  Sears Tower, Navy Pier, The Museum of Science and Industry, things like that.  Use pictures in the background to give it some depth.

Otherwise.. you're a teacher and he's a musician.. what if you use a scale (music scale for those who don't know) as your background and teaching terms as the name?  That way you have the two combined..

Or you could put the ABC's of music in both treble and bass clefs, depending on how many tables you have.. and you could add rests, etc if need be (Teaching music as the theme...)

  6. How about name the tables numbers, but in a different language? Like one could be Uno two could be 2 in chinese etc.

  7. name them after classes that are taught in school (history, spanish, biology....)

or after music stuff (G major, quarter note, treble cleff.....)

Name them after your favorite sites in each city (Big Ben, Ayers (sp?) Rock)

Name each table with the word Love in different languages

Name them after things that are special to you guys (the place you had your first date, where he proposed, your favorite restaurant, your favorite colors, the way you each take you coffee)

Name them after your favorite movies

  8. You could name them after characters (or things) in your favorite TV show. My husband has his computer servers named after different ships they had on the Stargate show (Apollo, Daedalus etc).

Or name them the same as decks on a cruise ship (Baja, Lido, Caribe, Promenade etc).

Or as planets in the solar system.

  9. hey girl i think you should go with the places you've been to

  10. you could you cities from both of your homelands.

you could use names, places specific to the both of your interests. such as the clefs of all the instruments. the subjects in school. song titles specific to both of your heritages.

  11. Numbers usually work best for tables. If you want to name them though that works too but there's a good way to use the frames afterwords so they dont go to waste. Put the card table names/ numbers in frames that match your color scheme. After the reception is over, save the frames and wait for your wedding photos from your photographer to come in. Pick pictures that would fit in the frames (4x6 usually) and pick ones of your parents, relatives, groomsmen, bridesmaids, maid of honor etc and give the framed pictures of them to show your thanks and so they have a momento of the occasion.

  12. James Bond Movies  http://www.imdb.com , and I'd use Octopussy for the table full of singles ; )

Top 15 rock albums of all time (or whatever style is his favourite).

The different types of plaid/Tartan (Blackwatch, Nova etc)

    Famous Volcanoes

Or my favourite - famous poets that have written about love.  So, one side of the place card would say your guest's name "John Jones"and the other side would say "Browning" with this quote

"Brightest truth, purest trust in the universe--all were for me

. . .In the kiss of one girl"

    or

    Shakespeare

"Hear my soul speak. Of the very instant that I saw you, Did my heart fly at your service "

  13. Name them after a topic, then put a trivia question about the two of your.

    Table Name:  Heritage

Question:  What is the heritage of the bride and groom?

    Table Name: First Date

Question:  Where did they go on their first date

    etc.

  14. Name them after the an iconic spot of the places you've been to.

    Like:

    Kangaroo

    Big Ben

    Running of the Bulls

    What's iconic in Portugal?

    Dragon?

Maybe you could find out the national animal for each place you've been to together, and name the tables after them.... (IDK what London's national animal is...)

    Have fun

  15. Translate the word "Love" into different languages and name your tables after them. So one table could be 'love' another could be 'amour' (French) you could use the Chinese symbol and so on.

  16. What about taking an interest you share and going off of that. For example, my boyfriend and I love music of the 80's so we'd have the Journey table, the Guns and Roses table, and the head table would be the Bon Jovi table because I claim that we wouldn't be together if we wouldn't have started talking about them.

You could do this for movies, tv shows, books, etc.

  17. Do you have pictures from each of the places that you've traveled to?  Post a picture/number on each table!  Friends of mine had their picture taken around town and in each they were holding a number (table number).  The guests loved it!  They had their pictures taken at the zoo, places of employment, favorite restaurant, place they met etc.  That was cute.

  18. You can name your tables with countries you've visited.  You can also put pictures you've taken when you were in that country.  That would be really unique.  At the same time, your guests will be amused and involved.

  19. What about internet IMing stuff since you met online.

    LOL table

    <3 table

    ASL table

    TTYL table

  20. What about naming each table after a famous couple... Romeo & Juliet, Han Solo and Princess Leah, Brad & Angelina
