Question:

What are some creative ways to recycle old t-shirts?

My fiancé & I have quite a few old work shirts that are stained and/or have holes in them. Normally, I cut them up to use for dust rags, or use them when applying stain to wood. I can't think of any other good uses for them, though.

We are doing some spring cleaning & have discovered an excess of old shirts! They really aren't in good enough shape to donate to a thrift store, any ideas?

  1. I know this doesn't help you right away, but they have a really good book with ideas in it. It's called "Generation T: 108 Ways To Transform a T-Shirt" for about $15 ($10 on amazon.com). Lots of very creative ideas! From new shirt styles, to handbags, to legwarmers... The list goes on!

  2. It's hard to say, without acutally seeing the condition of the tshirts. I'm sure if you search the web, you could find some interesting DIY projects to do with them. Try: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php...

They have a ton of awesome ideas

  3. make into headbands or if its a kool graphic t make into posters and stuff like that

  4. Well, here is something you can do that is resourceful, take the t-shirts, and cut them up in good size squares, take them to a few nursing homes, or retirement villages, and offer them to the activities coordinator, the ladies there love to make quilts, and keeps them busy, and they can use tshirt squares to make quilts. Just a thought...Good luck.

  5. Sew  patch style pieces together & stuff with batting to make pillows.   Make halters.  Donate to elementry schools for painting shirts.   Use pieces in the bottom of a flower pot as a strainer to hold dirt in the pot.  Cut into pieces for making puppets. Recycle through Freecycle.org        Good Luck!   I'm sure you can come up with more ideas.

  6. You answered your ?, in a way. Being in the hardwood floor business, I run ads, looking for all cotton Ts to buy, since I do so much staining. I pay 25 cents a piece for them. So depending on where you live, you can at least sell them for rags.
