  1. typical is the case of the children of first generation migrants, they want to be like the other kids, but they're parents want them to keep their cultural traditions. The film "Bend it like Beckham", has a cute portrayal of these issues.


  2. On the other side (looking above) There are the issues of the "natives" cultural identity...

    Some "British" people for example believe that immigration and "multiculturalism" is destroying the "British national identity"  This is interesting, because very few of these people are actually Celts or Picts, and there for are arguably no more British than the second/third generation "ethnics" they blame for the loss of the "British" identity.

  3. The Native American that leaves the reservation.  After high school he goes away to college to be a doctor, lawyer or Indian Affairs specialist and is ridiculed and hazed by his peers, suffering from the inherent pressures, prejudices and stereotyping college so freely offers for many years.  Then upon returning to the reservation he is eyed warily by the locals, seen as an apple - red on the outside, white on the inside; untrustworthy, having become worldly through the white man's world.  Now he experiences being an outsider to both worlds.
