It has been a crossroads of the world for millenia. Go to the National Geographic website and there is a picture of a young girl with haunting green eyes. This picture shows the mix of different people that have intermixed and created the people that now inhabit Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is a Muslim country, with pretty much a theocratic government, so their culture is based primarily off of Islam. You could also look at there food production and exports.
