The main difference is the stance.

snowboarding is harder to learn, it uses a board instead of two things attached to ur feet, snowboarders do more tricks on rails and in the air  than skiers.  its also louder

Snowboarding has both feet bounded to one board, skiing  has each feet bound to each ski.

Skis have two edges to control (4 edges in total).  Snowboards only has 1 edge in control at a time (2 edges in total).  That is why snowboard will has less control in icy conditons.

Snowboards are usually wider, thus doing better on powder than skis.

The stands are different, one sideway the other facing the front.  

Skis can handle flat area or uphill much better than snowboards.

Skiing is easier to learn, but harder to master.

Snowboarding boots are far more comfortable than ski boots.

last but not least, snowboarding require you to strap in the other foot after you get off the ski lift.  Skiing can just get off and go.

Skiers constantly stand and move down the hill. Snow boarders seem to spend most of their time sitting in the snow or adjusting their bindings, very little time riding.   Just my opinion after watching them both for 20 years.
