  1. DO:

Explore Old San Juan & el Morro Fort

Go to el Yunque rain forest & swim in the waterfalls

See the Arecibo Telescope &/or Camuy Caves

    Kayak in a bioluminescent bay

Go out & enjoy the nightlife

    Dance

Eat the local cuisine (comida criolla)

Relax on the beach (lay on a hammock, drink from a coconut)

check out culebra or vieques islands

Go surfing or try some watersports

Check out what Ponce & the south coast has to offer

Do something cultural (go to a festival or a cockfight)

Drive through the mountains just to see the view

Listen to the coqui frogs sing at night

    ------------

    DON'T:

dont go to any bad neighborhoods or caserios

dont do anything dumb (use common sense)

dont stay in one place (there is too much to see)

dont forget the suncreen or bugspray

  2. DO

-go to Luquillo Beach. It's beautiful.

-stay at the Westin in Rio Grande if you can. It's gorgeous and you'll get a room either facing the ocean or overlooking an iguana pond and facing the mountains. Plus it's right across the road from the entrance to El Yunque

-Do bring OFF! and sunscreen. The mosquitoes and the sun are no joke there.

    -Do visit La Parguera.

-Do bring a map or GPS and rent a car. The mass transit isn't much to speak of, and you'll want to be able to get around.

-bring some CDs or your iPod with you. The local stations are OK, but after a while you'll get sick of hearing the same 5 songs over and over again.

-learn a little Spanish before you go. Yes, a lot of people there speak both English and Spanish, but just as many only speak Spanish. In any case, it's always good to learn some of the local language when you're traveling.

-Do wear your bathing suit when you go to El Yunque. You'll want to dive into that waterfall and there's nowhere to change.

-go all the way to the top of El Yunque. It's a tough hike, but the view from the top is SO worth it.

-bring water with you to El Yunque. You'll want to stay hydrated.

-have a great time. PR is beautiful!

    DON'T

-eat at boring American places while you're there like Hooters or McDonald's. (They have both.) The real Puerto Rican food is delicious--although perhaps not the healthiest in the world.

-drive into the mountains at night! Those roads are curvy and dangerous and nearly vertical. They're hard to navigate during the day and downright scary at night, and once you're on them, it's nearly impossible to turn back around, so you could be on one road for hours with a mountain on one side of you and a cliff on the other.

-drive recklessly if you do go into the mountains. It's the custom there for safety's sake to honk when you're coming around a blind bend.

-stop at red lights after midnight if traffic allows. Because of a rash of car jacking, they now allow you to go through red lights after 12 for your own saftety.

-wait until 11 to go to clubs. Clubs in Puerto Rico tend to close pretty early.
