  1. On ice or snow

Bridges and overpasses freeze first, so always slow down and avoid sudden changes in speed or direction.

    Keep windows clear.

Keep your speed steady and slow -- but not so slow that your truck gets stuck in deeper snow.

Use your brakes cautiously. Abrupt braking can cause brake lock-up and cause you to lose steering control.

To make Antilock Brakes work correctly, apply constant, firm pressure to the pedal. During an emergency stop, push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, if necessary, even in wet or icy conditions.

If you get stuck in snow, straighten the wheels and accelerate slowly. Avoid spinning the tires.

    In high winds

It is best not to drive a trailer, van or other "high-profile" vehicle in high winds.

    When it rains

Slow down. Roads usually prove more slippery than they would seem.

Turn on your lights. Use the defroster or air conditioner to keep windows and mirrors clear.

    When it's foggy

Stay to the right of the roadway.

Turn on your headlights -- day or night -- to low beam.

If you can't see the road's edge, pull off on the right -- well out of the traffic lane -- and turn on the emergency flashers. Wait until visibility improves before you continue.

In a Hailstorm -- Find shelter by driving under an overpass or bridge.

In severe thunderstorms -- Listen to your trucks radio and be alert.

  2. If you have your cdl and don't know this already. please turn it in<

  3. If you are going on a downhill incline during slick rainy weather and there's a traffic light at the bottom, prepare yourself in case the light changes because there's an extra chance of skidding.   Good for any driver.

  4. My top tip is to remember that the braking systems on trucks are designed to work best when the vehicle is loaded.  Therefore when running empty give your self more braking room and time.  Were possible use the gear box and engine brakes to slow down, and only use the brake pedal at low speed braking, at lights and obstructions.

  5. slow down keep good distance between other autos and keep the shiny side up and don't use the engine brake on slick roads it can make you skid

  6. Just always look ahead and always leave lot's of room between you and other cars.  I also heard from someone that chewing mint gum keeps you more alert.

  7. do what you think is comfortable...........  if u dont feel safe park it  thats what i do.   i'm not gonna drive if i dont feel safe     bottom  line.... if the load is late  ;its late    atleast u dont take a chance on hurting yourself or anybody else.
