What are some easy dessert recipes that go well with pasta?

I am preparing a pasta dinner tonight. It will probably be spaghetti with a very basic sauce, and for a salad, I am making up a plate of tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and roasted peppers with pesto. I feel like dessert tonight, but I don't have any money to buy anything new. What is something I can make with what is already in my baking cabinet?

  1. Well the italians eat pudding (like zabaglione) or ice cream (like spumoni) quite often so you could go with that.

    The internet has lots of recipes for homemade pudding which basically requires milk eggs and sugar.  That is IF you don't have a box of pudding mix in the pantry.


  2. if you have brownie or cake mix you can't beat topping that with ice cream, toasted nuts, and caramel or chocolate sauce.

    if you have some ice cream or sorbet, try topping it with some fresh fruit such as berries or apples.


  3. There are lots of simply lovely Italian desserts: ZABAGLIONE.

    Put 5 egg yolks in a large mixing bowl.

    Add 1/2 cup superfine sugar, whisk until thick & pale, volume doubled.

    Put bowl over pan of simmering water.

    Add 2/3 cup Marsala wine or sweet sherry, & continue whisking.

    Continue until mixture becomes warm (10 minutes).

    Pour mixture into 4 tall wine glasses. Serve with amaretti cookies.

  5. STRAWBERRY MARBLED CHEESECAKE  

    Crust:

    1/4 cup butter, melted

    1 cup graham cracker crumbs

    3 tablespoons sugar

    Cheesecake:

    24 ounces cream cheese, softened

    3/4 cup sugar

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    3 eggs

    10 ounces frozen strawberries (thawed), in syrup

    1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch

    Puree strawberries and cornstarch in blender. Heat in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened, then cool. Combine melted butter, graham cracker crumbs and sugar; press onto bottom of 9-inch springform pan.

    Bake at 350 F. for 10 minutes. Combine cream cheese, sugar and vanilla, mixing at medium speed on electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Pour half of the batter over the crust then add half of the strawberry mixture by spoonfuls to the batter. Pour remaining batter into the pan then add the remaining strawberry mixture by spoonfuls. Swirl the mixture with a knife until it resembles a marbled effect. Bake at 300 F. for 50-60 minutes or until set. Allow cheesecake to cool then remove from rim of pan. Chill overnight before serving.




  6. Sounds wonderful!  One of my favorite salads too! .....  Do you have any fruit sorbet?  Or heat up a can of pie filling and serve it hot over ice cream ......  Make cream puffs and fill them with pudding

  7. pasta is a heavy dish so go with something lite

    ICE CREAM CAKE ROLL

    ½ pkg. chocolate cake mix

    3 eggs

    ½ c. water

    carton of ice cream (any flavor), softened

    Mix first three ingredients together and pour into a jelly roll pan lined with wax paper. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Gently turn cake out of pan and onto a kitchen towel sprinkled with powdered sugar. Roll the cake up into the towel to cool (this will help it keep its rolled shape). After the cake is cool, unroll it and spread a somewhat thin layer of softened ice cream evenly over the cake. Roll up the cake again and wrap it in plastic wrap and re-freeze (before freezing, you can frost the cake or put whipped topping on the cake if desired). Once frozen, cut the cake into slices and adorn the slices with chocolate drizzle, powdered sugar, whipped topping, etc
