Question:

What are some easy guitar songs that don't have the F chord in them?

I am just learning the guitar and at the moment I think the F chord is impossible for my hand to form. (spoiled piano player) I already know how to play "Margaritaville". But that's about it. Any other suggestions would be great, thanks!

  1. Any thing by sublime they stay a way from F a lot. "Rivers of Babylon" is my fave and one of the first songs i learned. But you need to start playing with 7th chords to get better. You can only do so much if you stay at the top of the neck playing full chords plus its hard to go into any leads when you up there.

  2. You can transpose any song into a key that doesn't necessarily require you to play those pesky bar chords. It just takes some simple music theory.

For example, the key of C includes an F chord, right? Here are the 3 significant major chords in the key of C: C, F, G. That's called the 1, 4, 5. Assume that C is one. Now, count on your fingers (using the standard musical alphabet A-G, but don't use sharps or flats. C=1, D=2, E=3, F=4, G=5. The 1, 4, 5 in the key of C is C, F, G. Get it?

Now apply the same counting to a key that doesn't have F in it. Let's try G. G=1, A=2, B=3, C=4, D=5. The 1, 4, 5 in the key of G is G, C, and D. For quick reference, here are the no-barring friendly keys on guitar:

    G (G, C, D)

    A (A, D, E)

    D (D, G, A)

Now... if the chorus for Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door goes:

    C - - - G - - - F - - - - - - -

Then you can see by the chords being used that these are the 1, 5, and 4 of the key of C. Transpose that to an easier key, say G...

    G - - - D - - - C - - - - - - -

I hope that helps and isn't too confusing. If so, then, um... use a cheater's F chord :-)

e 1st fret (use the soft pad of your index finger)

B 1st fret (use the soft pad of your same index finger)

    G 2nd fret (middle finger)

    D 3rd fret (ring finger)

    A don't strum

    E don't strum

PS: That simple way of figuring out the 3 significant chords (the 1, 4, 5) in a particular key only works with the keys of C, A, G, E, & D. The common guitar keys. For any other key, you'll have to learn a bit of more about music theory, but feel free to email me and I'll tell you more :-)

  3. You're never going to get better if you keep avoiding those things that require hard work and practice.  Every single new guitarist has trouble with the F chord and miraculously every single one who stays with it eventually learns it.

Keep trying and you'll master it sooner than you think.

  4. If you've ever heard the band "Bright eyes" nearly all of his [their] songs are quite simple and very very easy to play. If new-acoustic-singer-songwriter-"emo" isn't for you, try some Neil Young, or how about Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd? its G C D G.. and maybe Am.. i don't have a guitar in front of me at the moment, but its easy, and fun! Also, If you learn barre chords [aka power chords] you're open to a myriad of many many many easy songs!

  5. dude after u learn the F chord u can learn like TONS of chords cus u jus use that same position

    umm...

"wish you were here" by pink flyod

  6. Blowin in the wind...Bob Dylan....alot of old folk songs.....and the eagles
