I always say that actions speak louder than words. You prove to your freinds how much you care by standing by them when they need you. Be there for them and you don't even have to utter a word. Some of the most touching moments are when you can just look at each other and understand their pain grief or happiness.

go up to them and tell them "hey, i'm not kidding about this, and you might not even realize it, but i really care about you. and i'm not trying to get all mushy for nothing, but i just wanted you to know the truth. we might be friends, but seriously, i wanted you to know how i feel" maybe that should work, but you try and think about how close you guys are and how your friends make you feel.
