  1. Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell

  2. For microeconomics, I suggest Hal R. Varian.

He is the chief executive of finance in Google(as far as I know, and his book is great)

Why microeconomics, I believe to get a better insight in economics, micro economics give you the best. Relation between price and goods, game theory and welfare etc.

In macroeconomics, I suggest read some newspapers to understand macro level of economy.

  3. Naked Economics, by Charles Wheelan

It's a great book if you want to learn why economics is important and how it affects the world. The book isn't very long, and seems to go by fast because the author covers a lot of interesting topics quickly. Here's an example: "The poverty line is now at a level of real income that was attained only by those in the top 10 percent of the income distribution a century ago". It has all the interesting stuff about economics without the math or graphs. If you want to understand the math and graphs, almost any econ textbook should do.
