  1. Interesting question.  ECONOMIC outcomes could be a loss of trading due to loss of property and equipment, and stock market collywobbles due to people asking for insurance.  Loss of trading could also ensue from damaged crops, or damaged supply lines.

    On 16th October 1987, Britain experienced a hurricane which caused widespread damage.  Three days later, came the Black Monday stock market crash, abetted in no small way by frantic insurance trading.

    The POLITICAL outcomes are similar, and could include the strengthening or weakening of political reputations, depending on how quickly the government reacts to the havoc wreaked by hurricanes. Look how Bush was criticised for not doing enough to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

    A swift response however, would bump up the opinion poll rating of an incumbent government.
