  1. There are numerous ways in which you can diversify your instruction in ways that will cater to both the ESL learner and a TAG learner.

The traditional method of instruction is basical oral lecture from the instructor while students passively take notes based on the lecture.

    Some different ways:

Teach a rhyme, song, or limmerick to help students remember a particular tricky grammar rule or a set of related ideas (e.g., "i before e except after c..." or the "Fifty Nifty United states" song written by Ray Charles).  You can use content from a variety of levels so it applies to both TAG and ESL.

Teach a different way of taking notes.  Show your students how to lay out guided notes (make a chart with columns for idea titles, comments, questions, summaries).

Use Technology.  There are a number of innovative ways in which you can use technology to enhance your instruction.  You can have the students create a documentary about their content, or put together a powerpoint presentation and have them put it to music.

Do group work/collaborative work.  I teach English, but once a year I'll get together with the Science teacher or History teacher that share my kids and we'll to a collaborative project.
