el nino on weather means that for australia and new zealand, less storms because the trade winds die down and let the warm water flow to the eastern edge of the pacific, resulting in calmer, more stable air over land.

for the biosphere, it really only effects the fish off of south america. when el nino is not in affect, there is upwelling off of south america where the cold, nutrient rich water comes up to the surface where the fish feed off of all the tiny organisms. during el nino,there is downwelling, pushing all of the nutrients down and causing a warm water surface. the fish do not get the food they need so they move on.
