most hospitals are desperate for med techs.  there just aren't enough to go around.  in the hospital lab there are bench techs; supervisors and lab director.  also many med techs move up to the IS department as well as the infection control positions.  many med techs are employed by the health labs, CDC, research and forensics.  outside of the medical field itself.. there are the instrumentation companies such as Roche; Seimens; Abbott or Beckman/ Coulter that employ med techs as service reps; field reps; call center reps and instructors.  major industry uses med techs as quality control due to the exacting work of the medical laboratory.  this includes cosmetics industry as well as chemical companies such as Dupont and pharmacuticals such as Eli Lilly.  any where there is a need for Quality Control with a chemistry or biological background is interested in a med tech.  also labs are inspected and certified . .. many med techs become inspectors and do the certifications.  also there are opportunities as a traveling tech and overseas.

these are just a few of the possibilities.

the last article i read stated that for every med tech graduate there are 3 new jobs.. not including the jobs available from retirement and others that have moved from the field.  also the average age of a med tech in the US is 48.
