I'm going on a trip to Hawaii and from where I reside, the flight will take at least eight hours.

I haven't read a good book in a while and of the books I have read, Stephen King is the primary author.

In your opinion, what are some engrossing, suck-you-in books that Stephen King has written?

I've already read the book "Gunslinger" by Mr. King as well as "Black House." The latter I've not finished but it hasn't really intrigued me anyway.

I was also thinking about buying the novel "Twilight" because of the rave reviews it has received but I don't know if I like the plot.

So, in your humble opinion, what are some superb Stephen King books that I would find interesting?

  1. I loved the Gunslinger. You could continue reading those books. The third one is very VERY good. I didnt yet read Black House though because I was not impressed by the first one (The Talisman).

Of King's books, the one that grabbed me the fastest was Cell. It's quite graphic in the beginning, but turns out to be much different than what you initially think.

My favorite of his stuff is Misery. It isnt too long and quite interesting. If you saw the movie and liked it, you'll like the book. While the plot is similar, the actions taken by the characters differ drastically.

Some non-horror that he did that was great was Hearts in Atlantis or Bag of Bones. Both are captivating and just all around incredible stories.

Some of my other favorites are:

    The Dark Half

    Needful Things

    Insomnia

    Tommyknockers

    Green Mile

    I would NOT recommend:

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

    From a Buick 8

Rose Madder (borderline. I dont quite hate this one, just not one of my favorites).
