What are some environmental issues concerning airplanes? How do airplanes affect the environment?

  1. the  main issues are the pollution levels due to fuel consumption. the other one is noise and how it affects horses / other animals


  2. They aren't the best thing for the environment (but neither are animals themselves; they breath out CO2)

    Fact of the matter is there are a million others things that cause more pollution than planes.

  3. Like the other poster commented on, fuel consumption and emissions is a big problem. Noise pollution is a huge concern for airlines. They have to fly special routes to and from airports so they don't fly too low over residential areas.

    Another big problem is the deicing chemical sprayed on airplanes while on the ground in snowy or icy weather.

    Finally, disposing of the waste is also an environmental problem. When you change the oil on your car, you have to dispose of about 5 quarts of oil. The jet engine I work on every day holds about 55 quarts of oil, which also needs changed on a regular basis. There is also the hydraulic fluid, Skydrol, which can cause a severe skin reaction, or cause blindness if you get it in your eyes.
