  1. Peanuts, avocados, bananas. Brilliantly packaged in all cases. The packaging is entirely biodegradable. It does a great job of protecting the produce. Best of all it is virtually free because it grows right on the product. If I am not mistaken all are available in Canada.

Sorry I could not resist :). But in all seriousness, fresh fruits and vegetables are excellent examples of sound packaging in as much as little or none is required at all. One of the better examples of sound packaging are bulk foods. They are stored in bins and you  just scoop them out into your plastic bag. Admittedly poly-bags are not the best ecologically but we are moving towards biodegradable plastics based on corn and other natural sources and once those are introduced widely bulk produces will be excellent.

Many products are sold with an over abundance of packaging. One company that does a fairly decent job in both minimizing packaging and in choosing more environmentally friendly packaging is Ikea. They appear to be using mostly cardboard with a high recycled paper content, and that is one of the better packaging materials out there.

  2. The hen packs the egg perfectly.

Those companies that use recycled paper and cardboard based egg packages is a good thing.

Some food products that come in re-usable jars with clip lids are great.
