Jason Lezak is a 32 year old swimmer. What does he do for a living? And the others? How do they pay the bills given how much practice is required?

  1. They all work regular normal jobs. I'm sure some of them get things and money through endorsements. But the olympics only happen every four years so they have to make time to practice, just like everyone else.

  2. They work at Home Depot, according to the commercials :)

  3. If you go to the Olympic teams' pages they will tell you in the bios.  One of the swimmers is finishing up his medical residencies. One of the male gymnasts is a coach for a university. A female on the shooting (it's late, so I cant remember the real name) is a former police officer.  And a few are full time moms!   Some are still in school (high school or college).  And some are professional basket ball players :)  (Sorry I couldn't resist a little humor).

I assume you mean bills like rent, food, utilities. The younger ones have parents who are "paying the bills."  Many of the college age ones have university scholarships, which have strict guidelines about how they can make money. And some have endorsements, like a few of the swimmers.

When you want something bad enough, its amazing what you will make time for.  They probably give up social events and some opportunities to follow their goals/dreams.
