  1. I can give you a couple of Inventors that deserve a lot of attention.  They opened the doors for us to get rid of fossil fuels:

    Nikola Tesla

    John Bedini

please do a Yahoo! search on them and find out for yourselves.

  2. I agree with the first two answers

  3. A five-part series which aired last year on USA channel called Eco-Tech gave lots of prime example, like viruses which can fuel batteries.  A really good book which details many other examples is "Worldchanging: A User's Guide for the 21st Century" edited by Alex Steffen.  I'm sorry I can't remember more of the examples, but I was really impressed--and somewhat overwhelmed--by just how awesome the new technology is.  It would be worthwhile to look into these resources.

  4. The solar-electric roof... it can provide not only all the electricity the house uses, but also provide its heat, without using electrical power for that heat.

What is preventing its use?  2 significant problems:

We do not have enough silicon production to add more solar-electric roofs. The cost of the power is above any other technology in current use. Newer solar panels have been developed that do compete with even coal for cost, but we still can not buy them.

  5. I work for a company that makes coatings like paint. They have a R Value of 10 to 13 and people are saving 20 to 42 % in energy cost.

The company is coming out with a insulation panel that produces electricity later this year.

There are alot of small companies coming out with great products. I wont mention this one to avoid spamming.

  6. I am a low-tech off-the-shelf inventor creating solutions to energy/environment problems. We have developed a space heater that works on a candle flame. It is a multi-core radiator assembly that is suspended above the candle flame. The radiator absorbs the heat of the candle and converts it to dry radiant space heat. Overall surface is about 90 square inches of 160-180 radiant heat body. All on a candle, mind you.

This last year we have created an "electric candle" based on a 60 watt quartz halogen lamp. It uses the "wasted" heat from the light bulb to drive heat into the radiator assembly. The advantage is that it is a non-flame based system, so you can turn it on (like a lamp) and leave the room.

Weather related power outages make this product excellent in the home emergency kit, you get both heat and light from the same source. You can put "candle heater" in google and find our website and read reviews.

We have not yet "broken" into the national market or the national media, but we have had some play on the net.

What makes what we do unique is that it is available now, today -- not at some distant future, and the components are common. This holds expense down. Coming this summer is our serpentine array passive solar hot water, and if all goes well, our re-design of the original HEATSTICK tm Thermal Fan.
