My IUI has been converted to an IVF. I was having my IUI's done during my lunch break, so no eyebrows raised. they did raise their eyebrows when i started taking my lunch break at 8am (ultrasounds and bloodwork) every other day. (i work in the accounting dept 6am-2pm)

i am tired of their questioning look. what excuse did you give if any? i don't say anything, i just say i'll be back in 40 minutes. now my egg retrieval is scheduled for tuesday, so i will be taking that day off. thankfully i have thur and fri off, so i won't call out for egg implantation.

  1. really you are entitled to the break so I don't think I'd give them any excuse if you don't want to...you can spend your break however you want to....don't feel like you have to explain

  2. hi,

i just got tired of keeping it a secret, so i just said what the heck and told them and the boss i was trying.  im only taking clomid, but the problem is..... i work in a pharmacy and my boss is the pharmacist and she owns the company.  all the meds have to go through her to be final checked so she would see my clomid!!  i have to get it there because clomid is sooo expensive elsewhere and since i work there i get all 5 pills for only $12! i couldnt hide it any longer.  i kept the ttc a secret for 5 months and this month i had no choice because i got the clomid!  good luck!

  3. I went through fertility treatments for about a year before having a successful IVF cycle.  In the beginning, I was able to hide it - ultrasounds and bloodwork before work etc . . .

When it came to the IVF, I just broke down and told my immediate supervisor.  He was very supportive and kept it confidential.  I told my other co-workers that I had some family issues to handle and left it at that . . .

    Good luck with your cycle!!!!

  4. This is an excellent question, because people forget that not only does it immediately impact the way your colleaaues feel about IVF, but it also suggests that you'll get pregnant and be wanting time off for maternity. Having said all of that negative stuff, you're entitled to unbiased treatment from everyone at work. If you were having regular treatment for an illness, you would expect them to treat you fairly and this is no different. It's a medical procedure that you're doing to combat an unexplained medical situation.

My thinking here is that you try to get through your first IVF cycle without saying anything. Seems like it's all pretty well planned already, so I would keep quiet. However, I would then tell your boss next week that you did it. This is because 1) you already did it and 2) you're not going in there and asking for anything, like time off etc.

It will explain the other time off you've needed, and it will then be explained in the future when you 1) get pregnant and are ecstatic or 2) need some support if the IVF doesn't work out first time.

  5. tell them that your going through medical procedures.. it's personal and u dont want to explain... they'll probably think something bad.. but hey it will be a reason for the leaving every so often.. right?
