  1. When I was certified I had to dive in to 10 ft water to retrieve a 10 lb brick. Practice that and treading wile holding the brick is great. Also make sure you can swim all the laps... and read some books on first aid.

  2. just stretch and build the tempo into your swim

  3. make sure you can do 20 laps (back AND forth) freestyle. If you can do that then you will be fine.

  4. ummm u can swim all of ur strokes doing like a 200 meter IM in the pool, u can practice ur treading water (roadery kick, scissors kick, and whip kick), i am doing lifeguard training since im not old enough to try out for lifeguarding, so i have my instuctor drop a ten pound water brick on the bottom of the pool (12 ft. deep) and then i start at the beginning of the pool while my instructor times me i swim down to the other end of the pool front crawl (freestyle) and flip turn around go back half of the way then pike dive (dive from the surface of the water) and go down and get it then when u come back up u have to lay on ur back w/ the brick above water on ur chest and whip kick it half way back to the other end of the pool and get up from the side. i think to pass the lifeguarding test u have to do this in like 1:50 min.- hope this helped

  5. If I were you I'd be preparing myself mentally, because most people who fail do so because of bad decisions they made. Go through every type of response, and go through what you'd be doing as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th guard.
