What are some family friendly neighborhoods around Sydney?

I am considering moving back to Sydney with my 2 children for a couple years. I am looking to rent a furnished home near Sydney. Any suggestions on areas with good schools and family oriented neighborhoods. I was born in Cronulla but moved to the US when I was 14. I am looking to move to Australia with my kids hoping to live near the beach and let my girls experience life in Australia. I would also like to find out what I would need to do to get my citizenship reinstated as I was born there but currently have a US passport.

  1. It is rare to find furnished places to rent in Australia. The few furnished houses are more geared to short term rentals and considerably dearer. You can rent furniture though, or even better buy second hand.

Any of the northern beaches are good family suburbs, ie Manly to Palm Beach, but they may be a little too dear, depending on your budget. Another good family area perhaps a bit more affordable is the area around Pennant Hills Road, eg Carlingford, Pennant Hills, or around Blacktown for less expensive still.

    Hope this helps :)

  2. I would look at somewhere in the St.George area of Sydney.

    - You are about 20 mins drive from the beach

    - House prices/rent is still affordable

    - Lots of families with kiddies

    - Lots of sporting clubs and fields and schools

    - Georges river on your doorstep

    - Only 30-40 mins train ride into the city

Whats wrong with Cronulla ? Its still nice.

  3. Since the housing affordability isn't as great now, you may want to consider the Campbelltown/Macathur area, which is on the outskirts of south western Sydney. It is a rapidly growing area and has been for many years. Over the years, there has been many new modern homes built there which is cheaper than the inner subrbs.

Many young families live in that area and it isn't bad if you ask me. I'm from Bankstown though.

    Good luck.

  4. whatever you do, dont go back to cronulla!! it is not a nice place right now. i recommend the northern beaches, but not manly.

  5. Northern Beaches.
