What are some examples of primarily low class movements that were successful, or an example of when low class or poor people banded together to make a significant impact on history?

  1. The Peasants' Revolt (aka Tyler's Revolt) in England in 1381 was certainly significant.  The peasants marched on London after a new poll tax was added to an already considerable burden of taxes and feudal obligations and captured the Tower of London, somthing that no one had ever done.  Peasant leader  Wat Tyler was unsuccessful in controlling unruly marchers who burned government buildings, looted or killed, and was eventually killed by the Lord Mayor.  Results?  In the short term, promises that king Richard II made under duress were considered invalid, but the poll tax was withdrawn.  In the long term, peasants gradually began to earn more money and more rights from the lord of the manor, but the process took nearly 100 years.
