  7. Famous Japanese swords include:

Honjo Masamune, Sword of the Tokugawa shogunate, a feudal military dictatorship of Japan established in 1603.

Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi ( Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi) is a legendary Japanese sword as important to Japan's history as Excalibur is to Britain's, and is one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan. It is actually called Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi ("Sword of the Gathering Clouds of Heaven") but it is more popularly called Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi. It is also called Tsumugari-no-Tachi.

The Zanbato is an incredibly large type of Japanese sword with a mysterious historical background that has inspired various fictional swords found in a wide variety of today's media including anime television, books and video games. Most unrealistically large swords such as the Buster Sword or the Tetsusaiga found in Japanese media today are inspired by the zanbatō.

Masamune and Muramasa  were famous Japanese sword-smiths.

Masamune Okazaki(Okazaki Masamune), also known as Goro Nyudo Masamune (Priest Goro Masamune), is widely recognised as Japan's greatest sword-smith. As no exact dates are known for Masamune's life, he has reached an almost legendary status. It is generally agreed that he made most of his swords in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, 1288 - 1328. He created swords, known as tachi in Japanese and daggers called tantō, in the Soshu tradition. He is believed to have lived and worked in the Sagami Province. An award for sword-smiths exists called the Masamune prize which is awarded at the Japanese Sword Making Competition. Although not awarded every year it is presented to a sword-smith who has created an exceptional work.

Sengo Muramasa was a famous sword-smith who founded the Muramasa school and lived during the Muromachi period of 16th century in Japan. Oscar Ratti and Adele Westbrook said that Muramasa "was a most skillful smith but a violent and ill-balanced mind verging on madness, that was supposed to have passed into his blades....They were popularly believed to hunger for blood and to impel their warrior to commit murder or suicide."

There is a legend of a Masamune blade and a Muramasa blade being put into a river strewn with lotus leaves. The leaves swirled around the Masamune blade untouched, but the Muramasa blade cut them.

It has also been told that once drawn, a Muramasa blade has to draw blood before it can be returned to its scabbard, even to the point of forcing its wielder to wound himself or commit suicide.  Thus, it is thought of as a demonic cursed blade that creates blood-lust in those who wield it.

  8. Muramasa and Masamune held great reputations as skilled swordsmiths who's swords were held in great desire and reverence.

  9. Wilkinson sword ha, ha!
