What are some features of a royal colony?

I know that a royal colony is under the direct control of the king, but I need to elaborate on it. Thanks.

    Remember, because royal colonies were under the control of the king, the government system was set up by the king (so the governments and leaders were often more loyal to the king) and the religion of the colony often reflected that of the king.

    A lot of times the governors, who were set up in the colonies by the king, were given that area to govern because the king owed them or someone in their family a favor.  Also the governors always had to report directly to the king.
