For example: sauerkraut, roasted sausage, and boiled peanut are extremely common in North-Eastern China, even though most people outside of there wouldn't expect to find those food there.

So what are some food you can think of?

  1. I live in California's Bay Area, which has the highest concentration of Vietnamese immigrants in the country. Thus, there's a Vietnamese restaurant about every hundred yards, which most people don't expect; I think they expect to see more sushi bars and Chinese places (though there certainly are a lot of those as well). Also, we seem to have more Korean restaurants than Mexican restaurants.

  2. Living in Thailand italian food is very popular and of course Mc Do,KFC etc.

  3. I live in Texas, just north of Dallas.  We have lots of Mexican food, German food, Italian food and Chinese food.  We also have lots of Southern cooking and  Soul food and a bit of Cajun.

French and other cuisines are available in Dallas and Ft Worth, but in the small towns the other foods mentioned are on restaurant menus and in our homes.  We barbecue everything , even seafood!

  4. I've noticed that Wasabi is a pretty big thing here in Oregon. The plant actually grows quite well in this region.

  5. I live in Bay Area, CA. We have EVERYTHING here. There are two African/Etheopian resturants right by my house as well as Mongolian, Chinese, Mexican across the street. Then it's only a short drive down the street for Vietnamese, sushi, Italian, Korean, or pretty much anything else you want.

  6. Bangers and Mash, its a common Australian food its sasuage with mash potato. and lots of pasta dishes and steak

  7. nasi lemak...nasi dagang...dodol!

  8. When I moved back to the midwest I was surprised to find Tex-mex is very popular here.

  9. I live in the northeastern part of the U.S.A. (Rhode Island) and my sister lives cross Country in the southwestern state (California).   Every time she comes to visit in the hot Summer, she wants to eat at the Chowder Shack down the street from my house to get chowder and clam cakes.  Also she loves hot wieners with the meat sauce and chopped onions because she said they don't have that in California and that's what she misses about her home state.  Also popular in the eastern states is shelled fish like lobster, steamers (clams) and bay scallops (my favorites)!
