  1. animal products are hidden with a lot of different things.  Here are some good websites:

  2. Definitely gelatin and products that contain gelatin like: marshmallows, some brands of jam and mermelade (check the label), altoids.

Soups that are made with beef or chicken stock (hard to know specially in restaurants, so I generally just avoid them when eating out)

Also some mars candy bars may not be vegetarian.

In any case, you need to be very aware, so make a habit of checking the labels for those hidden ingredients you would never guess are there!

  3. You first have to find out if they really are a vegetarian.

Lacto-ovo vegetarian: No beef, pork, fish, chicken. Milk & eggs are okay. Excludes things that include gelatin, or have been cooked with some form of meat fat.

Semi- vegetarian: No beef or pork

    Pescetarian: No meat except fish.

Vegan: no meat of any kind or dairy or eggs.

  4. As a vegetarian I avoid red & white meat, seafood, poultry, gelatin, rennet, beef broth, chicken broth, chicken fat, beef fat, sardines, fish sauce.

Many things that may seem veggie actually contain these products so be sure to read the ingredients. Also salads like Caesar contain sardines, Thai food sometimes contains fish sauce.

So it depends on how strict you are willing to be on yourself. Some people are hard core (myself included) and others turn the other cheek. Good Luck!!

  5. ribs

  6. Geletin

    Glycerin (unless it's vegetable glycerin)

    Rennet

Cochineal/Carmine (a red dye used in some food products; its crushed beetles; its in the Big Red gum and other artificially flavored red products)

    Aspic

These are a few of the common ones, there are a lot more, but very rare. look out for these!

    Hope i helped!

  7. Round Trees Fruit Pastels, REALLY!!!

  8. Watch out for slaughter by-products.  Like you said, gelatin is a common one.  Also, some cheeses are coagulated with calf rennet, which is a byproduct of the veal industry; look for cheeses that are labeled as being made with vegetable rennet, or are rennetless.  Other ingredients you'll be looking for are meat broths, powdered meats, lard, and beef fat/tallow.  People ask here all the time, but if the ingredients say "chicken powder" or something like that, it really, truly is chicken.

  9. I get all my vegetarian questions deleted. I asked how it made them feel when they used to eat chicken. I don't get it.

I know it depends on the person. Some "vegetarians" eat fish still.

Some vegetarians don't eat anything that had a face. So they will eat eggs and some don't eat any animal products at all including milk.

  10. i meet two vegeterians who order chickend i think you can eat chicken !try the deferent vegetable around the world they are good too

  11. Along with all the usual things. I would plump for MY dinner, touch it at your peril
