Is volunteering at the library considered community service? give some ideas.

Yes. But there's no absolute definition of what is and isn't community service.

For instance, *I* consider any volunteering for a 501(c)(3) organization (USA definition of a nonprofit or NGO), public school or public service as community service. Other people say that volunteering for a performing arts organization, even if its nonprofit, is not community service. Other people say that if you are volunteering to prevent the government from, say, building a dam, because of environmental concerns, that this is community service, while others say not, that no politically-motivated service should be called community service.

Most programs that require community service hours require that the service be done in support of a 501(c)(3) organization, or a city or county or state public institution (like a library or public school or park). To find opportunities at such organizations in the USA:

yup volunteering at the library counts you can also do community service at a nursing home or assisted living facility or at the american red cross

Yes, and cleaning up the town,helping the sick and elderly, working about anywhere that is public, on a voluntary basis.

Some people volunteer at hospitals.  Veterans hospitals might need volunteers now.  I belong to an interfaith group that takes people to the grocery store, medical appointments, and other things.  For college graduates, many schools need tutors.  My wife volunteers at the library.  She is a stacker.  She also volunteers at a day care center for people in poverty situations.
