Webkinz is kind of like a virtual pet.  You get a real stuffed animal, and then it has a virtual copy of that stuffed animal.  My 4-year-old has one, and LOVES it.

Some parts of Webkinz World are too difficult for her to do yet, but there are plenty of things to do that are age appropriate, so she just plays with those things.  

I don't know if a 2-year-old could play it by himself, though.  Maybe with help?

What kind of medium are you planning to get it on? I mean like PC? or console games? Anyway for small kids as such I'll recommend getting a Nintendo DS, most of the games are suitable for this age group. There are cute(pet) games like the "Nintendogs", "Hamster's Life", "Dolphin Island", and many many more.. and even education games, musical games (hand and eye coordination). It's really interactive compared to PC games (well, there's actually this mic thingy, where can u speak into the game), so yeah, hope I helped.

What about Leapfrog or Leapster? I have a 19 and 16 year old, so I don't really know what is out there for younger kids.  Sorry :(

2 and up???well i dont know.how about tamagotchi but your the kid has to be seven and up.i dont know what age  cuz u never told me.and yeah,tamagotchiis a virtual pet game where you take care of your pet like feeding and playing games with it to earn points.it teaches reponsibility.

and i would also recommend nintendo ds,for 7 and older.you can buy a memory card for it,if you know how to put games in it.there are a lot of virtual pet games for the ds.games like hamster life,nintendogs,dolphin island,tamagotchi corner  shop(1,2,3)sims 2:pets,(well kinda,its pets and human),

make sure  the kid is realllly responsible cuz my little cuzin deleted 20 games from my memory card

littlest  pet shop  it's like a tamagotchi but  its more square-shaped.it has things to interact with too.
