i just started working in a daycare center and i have a class of fours and fives. i need some ideas of things to do with them besides coloring and going outside. it's a christian-based center, so anything that has to do with that kind of thing is great too!

  1. i found that some kids like puzzles so you might wanna try them

  2. Marble art. Put a small piece of paper ion a shoebox, have the child drop a few different colors of paint (let them choose the colors) in and 3-4 marbles. Put the top on the box and have the child shake it around. What somes out usually looks really cool. You can frame it by glueing it to a slightly larger piece of construction paper.

  3. sing songs  play games

  4. Circle Storytime...  and read with gusto!

    Make puppets of the characters.

  5. What I did was make finger paint and then well you guessed it, so finger painting...it went over really well.

  6. I'm not really old enough to work yet but i have two little sisters that are in that age group and trust me i know how to make them enjoy. u guys can play this game called know-it-all basket ball( i made it up so give me credit for it!lol). its really fun. what you have to do is pick one person out of the class. you can give clues to the kids about the person and they have to guess the clues. for example if u say whats the kids fave color and they guess it right, they get a point, and if they shoot the ball into the basket or goal, they get an extra point. there are supposed to be two teams. the team that has 20 pts. wins the game! another game u guys can play is called make a story. what u do is you start out with a word. the next person in line will say another word. then the next person. and so on. for example:

    u:once

    kid1:upon

    kid2:a

    kid3:time

    kid4:there

    kid5:was

    kid6:a....

so those were the suggestions i had! hope u enjoy with your class!

  8. Four corners.  One corner of the room is A, the other B....C...D.  You stand in the middle of the room and close your eyes and count to 10.  The children run to a corner.  Without opening your eyes you say a corner, for example A. You open your eyes and all the children standing in A comes to the middle of the room with you and stay there.  You close your eyes again, count to 10...another corner...and so on until only one child is left and that is the Champion.  Next time, the corners could be Christian-based.  Church, Mary, Jesus....etc.

Each time you play change the corner names, the children love it.....
