What are some fun and unique things to do together as a family on Labor day?

We have an 8 year old. No boat, no RV, but wouldn't mind doing something interesting together. Fun, adventurous and different!!

Paintball is a great family sport. I know, I know, you think it hurts really bad and it's too dangerous for your 8-year-old. First of all, they make and rent out body armor for small children which pads them against any "tags". Also, paintball has been proven to be safer than almost all major sports including football, baseball, basketball and even golf! It's a very fun way to spend a holiday, just make sure to wear long sleeves and pants.

Another fun thing to do outside is frisbee golf. If you don't live near a course of any kind you can just take a frisbee to a park and choose a tree a few hundred feet away and count how many throws it takes to get there.
