  1. Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride are two great games that play well with two players and can accomidate up to five players if you have friends over.

Check them out over at  www.boardgamegeek.com

  2. there is literati and bingo

  3. The scene it game is a very entertaining board game (if you don't know what that is, its a game where you put a DVD into your player and answer questions and move your piece accordingly. It would be easier if you read the instructions that comes in the game than listening to me). I also like Trouble, Yahtzee, and checkers. They all are easy and fun! GOOD LUCK!!

  4. Mancala is a great one.  It is an ancient game, that is easy to learn, deceptively simple, but amazingly complex.  You can make one using stones and an empty egg carton if  you don't have one.

Also consider Scrabble, chess, and checkers - the tried and true.   Many card games are good for two people.

    Have fun!

  5. chess, cheeckers ,backgammon etc are some 2playered board games.

  6. Mexican Train Dominoes!  You can get them at Walgreens for about 12 bucks!

  7. start with pente ,then graduate to go--it's as good as chess!

  8. Traditional Favorites

    -Backgammon, Chess, Checkers, Go, Mancala,

Modern Games, some of my favorites:

    1) Lost Cities -- A card game, but not with a standard deck of cards. Players are explorers who have to make tough decisions as to whether to explore one of five expedition sites. If you decide to explore an area, you lay down cards in that expedition site, but beware -- you can only lay cards down in ascending order, and if your expedition doesn't reach at least 20 points, you will lose points in that expedition. Though the game is very simple, it is a lot of fun for two. BTW, anecdotal evidence says wives/girlfriends love this game. Rio Grande Games.

    2) Hive -- An abstracted game about bugs. Each player has a group of 11 bugs on hexagonal blocks -- 3 ants, 2 spiders, 3 grasshoppers, 2 beetles and 1 queen. The object of the game is to surround your opponent's queen, on all six sides. Each of the bug types have a specialized form of movement. It's a tense but enjoyable quick game for two.

Check out http://www.hivemania.com/ for a computerized demonstration.

    3) Zertz -- an abstract game for two. The board is made up of black and white rings with 3 red rings mixed in. On a players turn, that player moves a ring or a stack he or she "controls" (a player controls a stack by having the topmost ring be of his or her color) The trick to movement is that a single ring moves one space, but a stack moves spaces equal to the number of rings in the stack. The key to the game is that the stacks and the rings on the board have to stay in connection with the red rings -- if you can't show a line of rings that connect back to a red ring, all the rings not connected are removed from the board. The winner is the player who controls the most rings in stacks at the end of the game.

These are just three of my favorite board games for two player. There are hundreds more great games that you have likely never heard of over at http://www.boardgamegeek.com
