  1. Disney cruises are supposed to be good, even if you aren't traveling with kids, provided you like the whole Disney environment.  The cruise will probably have a lot of children - that can be good or bad, depending on your viewpoint.  The line is also more expensive than other "mainstream" lines because of limited availability [they only have two ships].

Carnival is a good first cruise for most people.  You have to love Vegas-type glitz, however, because the ships are over-the-top in their decor.  They have lots of activities, fairly good food and service, "large" cabins with comfortable beds,  lots of people who like to have a good time, and lots of families.  The prices and choices of ships and itineraries are all very good.

NCL has some good bargains, but their food and service leave a lot to be desired, from what I have read.  Royal Caribbean also has lots of activities and some people think the food and service are very good - others disagree.

If you want something a bit more upscale, but not stuffy, Princess is supposedly a good line.  Its ships are prettier and the food and service are a bit better than either Carnival or RC.  The prices are comparable to all the other mainstream lines.

The "premium" lines include Celebrity and Holland America.  They are very beautiful ships, have fewer activities and a quieter atmosphere, with very good food and service.  Prices are not that much higher than the other lines, if you look for bargains.  They don't sail the Caribbean as frequently as the other lines, however.

You can get a good overview of the styles of the different ships at CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Reviews" and read the professional reviews and then the passenger reviews.  You can also browse the boards of each of the lines to get opinions of past passengers about various aspects of those cruises by clicking on "Boards".  You might also want to check out "Cruise Styles" at the top of the page.

"Good destinations" depends on what you're looking for.  The Caribbean is nice if you like watersports and tropical settings.  Alaska is great for scenery and wildlife.  The Mediterranean is nice.  There are so many choices!

Good luck in finding just the right cruise for you!

  2. Most of the mainstream cruise lines are great, though they each have a different personality.  We've cruised on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland American and Norwegian Lines, and my two favorites are Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.  But I'd go on any of them again.

You should talk to a travel agent - they will be able to help you decide what would be the most fun for you.  And they won't cost you extra for a cruise.

  3. You'll probably want to go with Carnival... Disney would be a blast but it is centered around kids and if you don't have any, why spend the money? Unless you are a kid at heart. Carnival can give you the same great features, just without all these little kids running around. Either way you will have fun...

  4. Carnival, RCI, and Disney are all fun ships to go on. Lots of people have and will answer the Carnival and RCI thing, so I will just talk about Disney.

Some people (adults) say that Disney is expensive with just a bunch of kids running around with Disney characters on every corner. OK, practically, they're kinda right. But this is what "Cruising Do's and Don'ts" from the Travel Channel once said: "Don't think that Disney cruises are only for kids." There are adult-only areas that you could enjoy if you don't like a lot of kids going around. There's even an adult pool.

in your destination, Castaway Cay, it's a private island with many activites to do, like parasailing, stingrays, swimming, whatever! But hey, That's only Disney. You choose whatever.
