  1. Former cruise line crewmember here:

It would depend on what country you are from.  The cruise industry is a strange animal.  There is still a bit of segregation but it doesnt normally get talked about.  If you are American, British, Canadian, Australian or a few others, you will have the choice of some better paying jobs, and you will get privileges that other jobs on the ships do not have.  Conversely, people of the nationalities listed above would not be hired in others.

Here is what I recommend:  I am assuming that you like people and that you are friendly.  Apply for a Cruise Staff position.  Your job will be to work in different entertainment areas of the ship.  You may host pool games, you will staff the library, call Bingo, and a host of cool jobs during the day.  In the evening you will "swan" around the lounges and showrooms.  Your job is to make the passengers' cruise the best possible.  Cruise staff is usually part of the entertainment department and they answer to the Cruise Director.  Expect a payscale of 300-500 dollars per week for this position.  Excellent cruise staffers will move on to an assistant Cruise Director position for a nice increase in pay.   It's a fun job with long hours but easy work.  You could also work in finance at the purser's desk.  Good money but lots of hassels from unhappy cruisers (you cant please them all).  You could be a musician, photographer, dancer, singer or actor if you have the training and experience.  There is also security, fire, and other professional positions.  Aerobics instructors do well there, too.

If you want a job that has a good mix of fun, free time and decent pay, look into a cruise staff position.  If you do it, though, give it your best each and every day.  It is very competitive and if you receive complaints you will be fired.  They dont give warnings.

The food? Depends on your job.  Cruise staff typically have a nicer place to eat and many times can eat from the passenger menu--but that all depends on the cruise line.  I ate from the passenger menu every day for 4 years.  Yummy.

Good luck to you.  Its a GREAT way to see the world and get paid for it.  If you have any debt, get rid of it before you go.  Paying your bills is difficult because you are gone for usually 7 days at a time.

  2. i also fancy cruise line job but i heard the food they offered is lousy

  3. Try Princess's website. They have several land facilities & you can work up from there, plus an inhouse Princess University for training.

Norwegian, Celebrity, Disney and Carnival list their jobs on their websites.

  4. I have been working as a photographer on ships for about 11 years and had a great time.

Food is generally good, but remember.... it is very hard to please everybody. Especially when you have people from all over the world with all their own cuisine.
