I am a tae kwon do teacher for kids from ages 4 to 12 and I am looking for fun, new ways to teach teqniques, warmups, exercises and games that are fun and incoporate tae kwon do in any way. Please send me any ideas or if you know of a good site that'd be great!! Thanks!

  1. heres a couple

you could have the kids line up in front of you. take one of those bubble blower things and blow bubbles. have the first kid pop the bubbles with tae kwon do moves  (kicks, punches, etc.)  then move on to the next kid and have them do the same.

another one is where each kid finds a partner at there level. give each kid a bandana and have them tuck it in the back of their belt. the kids sit in a low stance and try to grab their partners bandana by shuffling in a low stance.

    hope this helped!!

  2. One of the best exercises I ever used was a bubble pop. You blow bubbles for them to practice both kicks and punches. As long as the way the bubbles are popped remain legitimate (ie no swatting, smacking, poking, ect).

You can spend a 45 minute class having unfit kids working hard just by catching those bubbles. Even for the older kids, make it a challenge. Have them chamber their kick and balance it until a bubble comes into reach.

This is honestly a great coordination drill and keeps everyone's attention. Caution-use sparingly or it won't be as fun all the time.

    Good luck!

  3. One I loved doing as a kid was when we had to jump over a bo staff and end up rolling to our feet on the matt. It was a fun way to practice that kind of breakfall -- although these days, you could use one of those swimming pool "noodles" instead of a bo staff to make it safter.

  4. Oh! When I took TKD when I was 8 Master Corillo would take a really big bouncy ball and he'd throw it at us (kind of like dodge ball, but with a big bouncy ball) and if we were hit we were out. This would get us warmed up really fast and it was really fun. We'd run, jump, and ROLL (there's a technique) out of the way. It was so fun we'd beg him to play.

  5. In my tae kwon do classes, we do dodgeball and "jump over the rope"

even though neither of these sound like they would help their skills, they actually do. Dodge ball provides really good foot techniques and enables you to manuver your body more easily.

im not sure if "jump over the rope" is a common game but its when two people are on either end of a rope (or tied up white belts) and hold it tight. then you call out the names (or ages) and they try to jump over the rope. start low, then increase the height everytime everyone jumped at that specific height. the person who touches the rope sits out, the last one standing wins.

  6. Well there is always master(sensei) says, like simon says only with sensei and you use techniques fun for all ages.

you can have competitions like balancing contests (good to practiceice kicks) or have form competitionsios where 2 people go up against each other and preform a form the rest of the class is judge and the winner gets 1 point for each level topponentent is above them. (if equal opponentent is below the winner only gets 1 point) and whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins (thoccasionallyaly offer prizes like a special stripe for their belt orbandannaana)

  7. Why not teach them how to count to 10 in Korean?

This was a prerequisite for my yellow belt.
