I'm going on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico and Key West, FL. I will only be at either place for about 9 hours each day. What are some fun things to see and do at these two places? I hear that it's really beauitful in Cozumel, so I'm definitely taking my camera!

  1. I just got back from a cruise to these ports and let me start out by saying in cozumel we booked for playa mia beach and that was great cheap fun day. Also though if you like taking lots of pixs you can visit the ruins. In key west we did a bike tour llyods original and l strongly do not reccomend taking this tour it was the worst tour I have ever been on. We did pass the conch train tour which looked intersting but other than that not much in key west by the port

  2. The trolley tour and shipwreck museum in Key West are great.  Be sure to visit one of the many bakeries and get some real Key Lime pie!

Cozumel has tons of things to do!  We had great fun on the Cavern by Jeep tour.  The dolphin experince is fun but a bit expensive.  The submarine tour was kinda of boring.

Shopping in the open air markets in Cozumel is fun. But avoid the "malls". They are overpriced.

  3. Never been to Key West, but some friends and I found a tour in Cozumel where we went snorkeling, saw some of the island's landmarks, and still had time to go eat (Carlos and Charlies is good) and do some shopping in our eight hours off the ship. Punta Sur is a beach that is mostly deserted and not travled much by tourists- it was worth the trip out there for us.

    Have fun!

  4. By now, you should have received an excursion/tour booklet from the cruise agent with whom you booked.  The booklet fully describes what to do at each island (and other ports), what to wear, type of physical activity level, etc.  If you do not have this booklet, call the agent and ask for one; it's free.  You can look online and receive limited info about each tour.

  5. Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call", then your ports.  You'll get lots of ideas and pros/cons of the different things to do.  Those two ports are very easy and safe to do on your own, as long as you MAKE SURE you get back to the ship on time - they will leave without you if you're late, unless you're on an excursion you bought through the ship.

Coz has great beaches.  Chankannab Park and Paradise Beach are two of the most popular.  [If there are going to be several ships in port at the same time as your ship, go early. Check CruiseCal.com to see port schedules.]  There is also lots of shopping there, if you're into that.  If you go back some of the side streets you'll find better deals.  You will get hounded to some degree by the shopkeepers - just be ready for it.  A polite "no, thanks" usually does the trick.

Key West is a great place to just wander around in.  Lots of cute shops, etc.  Be sure and have some Key lime pie - Blonde Giraffe is a good place, though you'll find lots of recommendations on the KW board at CC.

    Have a great time!

  6. In Cozumel you should definitely swim with the dolphins. I am not a huge fish type person, but I went and it was amazing. Cozumel has so many options to choose from. They have so much going on. Snorkeling is also worth a try. In Key West, the shopping is great. The scooters are cool. There is so much to do!! have fun and definitely bring your camera!!!

  7. Cozumel has a fun beach- your cruise will take you there......... they have chairs, music, drinks and food (be careful with food!)  Carlos and Charlies is fun there in town!

Key West has great shopping........ Lunch at Half Shell Raw Bar is good if you like seafood (very casual)- Its also fun to rent bikes to get around.....  Of course- the legendary SloppyJ Joes is worth a visit too!

    HAVE FUN-

PS: Skip the ruins trip in Cozumel unless you want to spend most of the day on a bus.

  8. In Cozumel you can swim with the dolphins, or if you are scared of them you can rent a scooter and ride around the island. Key West... if you like cats I would visit Ernest Hemmingway's *butchered that spelling*  home
