What are some fun things to do with 2 people and 1 large pony?

My friend and I love to ride together, but a lot of times we only have 1 mount (my 14.2 HH pony who is neither skinny nor stocky). A lot of the time, we get little accomplished when one of us is riding (we talk too much). And double bareback riding is so much fun, but we can't do much with that... What are some riding things we can both enjoy and also give the pony a workout? (By the way, we ride English... if that matters)

  1. Hahaha, I'm still smiling. YOu are talking about me, right, not a girl whose name starts with A? :) I'm not sure, but I think we should keep trying to canter the bareback poles. I also think it would be REALLY fun to try and do the hill bareback!!! :):) we can talk about it tomorrow! :)

  2. Well me and my friend have the same problem we love horses but we only have my 17 hand thoroughbred we ride English too.

What we do is one of us get on and one stands beside the horse and walks/runs depending how fast we're going then we switch

We also walk my horse around the barn after we give him a bath to dry off

She's doesn't always come with so i hope that these tips help

  3. If  it`s   such   a  large  pony   then  you  both   can  go   horseback  riding.

  4. Teach your pony to pull one of those little carts that looks like a sulky,  but two people can sit in it.

  5. Pulling a cart is good... lol... I LOVE TEACHING HORSE TO PULL A CART... very interesting and time consuming and it can be a two person job... lol

  6. bath the horse

    ride and tie

    (there's more but i'm tired)

  7. You could do relay races where the horse does the course twice, and you switch riders as fast as you can in the middle.  Time it, and see if you can improve your times (this will cut down on the talking).  You can do this with regular obstacle stuff, games (like bending or egg and spoon), or even a jumping course or dressage test.

Another thing you could do on the trails is a ride & tie.  This is an actual sport, with competitions, but you could do it just for fun.  It involves two riders and one horse.  At the start, one rider takes off running on foot.  The other rider takes off mounted (passing the running rider) and at a preset place, jumps off, ties the horse up, and takes off running herself.  The first runner catches up to the horse, hops on, and passes the runner, then ties and runs.  This goes on for as many hand off points the riders decide on for the preset distance of the course.
