I want to add a little to this:

In the middle of this country, pretty much the Central Standard Time zone, wind can be harnessed to provide most of the energy needed in that area and many wind mills are being built in west Texas already.  Companies that build and maintain wind mills are busy and getting busier.  

Also there will be increasing needs to "retrofit" existing buildings -- that is, add more insulation, add solar panels where possible, etc.  As owners decide to modify buildings to reduce energy costs, a lot of work will be done putting new systems into them.

If you are asking what careers are availble that will benifit the environment. The ones that come to mind easily are anything to do with environmental sciences, studying what the actual affects of pollution are on the environment. Engineering and Architechture are definatly going to play a roll in reducing our carbon emissions. If we take advantage of the natural environment when designing and building houses and other buildings they will take less energy to live comfortably.

We can use natural lighting, thermal mass, geothermal heating and cooling for both air and water, as well as placement on the lot to ensure best light and less effect from the wind. Many of these old technologies are being adapted for energy conservation now.
