Question:

What are some general costs in Mexico?

I'm going to be going to Mexico this upcoming February, and I was wondering what general costs are, such as:

A decent dinner at a nice restaurant

A chocolate bar

A cooler (Bacardi Breezer or whatever)

Clothes (a shirt, a pair of pants, whatever)

Just general things, lol

How much do these things cost in Canadian dollars? Is it about the same, or less?

Thank you =)

  1. Prices vary according to where you'll be.

If you're buying stuff while in a resort, things are way pricier.

Some cities are more expensive than others.

Some stores have higher prices than others.

    But here's some rough estimates:

Dinner: anything between $50 and $500 CAD (not bad, huh? Good dining in Mexico is never as pricey as in Canada)

A Chocolate Bar: There are some small, cute, thin bars that cost only 5 cents, but most of them will be  around one loonie.

    Clothes: that's a tough one.

As there are some very expensive brands and stores.

Personally, I prefer to do my shopping in Canada when it comes to clothes.

Alcoholic drinks will be a fraction of what we normally pay in Canada.

So, to sum it up, things in general will be less expensive.

You'll find some really good bargains.

  2. Melkiha is correct, Totally depends on where you go. Tourist places cost much more than other towns.

Decent dinner can run anywhere from $5 US to as much as you want to spend. Drinks totally depend on the bar.

Food is generally a little less, especially fresh produce. (wash in iodine water before eating) I bought a liter of beautiful fresh strawberries from a street vendor for $2, and could have talked her into charging less.

Clothes made in Mexico (or China) for tourists are inexpensive but often are poorly made. Clothes that are folk art are reasonably priced for the amount of work, and well worth it when you can find them.

  3. Yep location. I go to small rural villages and practically cut everything by a third.

On the strip in Acpulco meals are triple what i get in my neighborhood. Understandable as its tourist driven

Prices in pesos - you do the math  For US dollars i divide by 10 for a close approx.

Tacos, enchilladas ,. picadas in my neighborhood - 25 pesos $2.50 dollars

    Cigarettes - 25 pesos

    Beer - 10 pesos

Combo meal at Mcdonalds 60 pesos.

Simple silk screen tourist shirt - I could bargin them down half price and get it for 20 pesos.

    Bus fare - 4.50 pesos

    Sunglasses - 80 pesos

    Shorts - 40 pesos

    Flip flops - 45 pesos

Got to bring your bargining powers to the street vendors - FOR SURE , dont ever not bargin with the Mexicans.

Get away from the tourist strip when you eat, and you get authentic, CHEAP, Mexican food.
