What are some good British rock/alternative bands?

Question

Stuff like Three Days Grace, Green Day, AFI, Mayday Parade (yeah I know all of those bands are American; I'm just giving examples of the kind of music I like)

I was looking on iTunes in the Alternative section and at the stuff they say is "hot in the U.K." and I don't really like a lot of that stuff. It's all really slow.
