  1. those digital picture frames

  2. Take a photo of what your father really loves.Say a pet,his car or even the house. You can then have this photo turned into a breathtaking painting at http://www.paintyourlife.com according to your specifications.

For a unique selection of canvas portraits, check out http://www.photo-print-on-canvas.com

  3. You can get one of those frames that has many openings, some have different size openings some have all one size openings.  You can get a bunch of pictures of you and your dad through the years and put them in the frame.  You can even leave some of the openings blank to write things to him, or song lyrics, or poems, etc.  I hope I'm not being confusing, it's those collage frames that has all the different picture openings, you can get them just about anywhere.

You can also go to the crafts store and get one of those frames that has to be decorated and you can decorate it and put a nice picture of you and him in it.

You can also make him a scrapbook of you and him and all the fun things you've done together, all the meaningful times, the fun times, etc.  Even just the everyday things.

I hope some of these ideas help!

  4. A rocking chair would be nice. Fathers like sitting on one while sitting on the porch reading newspapers. =)

  5. A gift certificate to Home Depot.

But in all seriousness, a lot depends on what he really goes for and your crafting skill if you intend to make something. I used to enjoy going to craft stores to get pre-fab unfinished softwood boxes, then paint them with watercolor paint and watercolor pencil, then varnish them with Modge Podge. It's a quick and easy way to make a keepsake box.

If you're not that artistically inclined or not up to paying for an unfinished box, here's another way to do it. Find a tobacco store that sells cigars, preferably a place with a walk-in humidor. Get a cigar box from them (the places with the walk in humidors usually give them away for free), and on the way home hit the craft store and pick up some Modge Podge and one of those sponges on a stick they have for applying varnishes. Fish through the house for some of his old magazines or magazines that would have pictures he would like. Cut the pictures out and use the Modge Podge to 'glue' them to the surface of the cigar box. I like to cut out not just photos but words and letters to say nifty things. Then when you have finished arranging images and text and gluing it down, give the entire box a light coat of Modge Podge to protect both the wood and the images. Let it cure and dry overnight and give it to him the next day.

    Easy!
