I saw one at a local fair where they took a mouse and played different kinds of music near its cage. They judged the amount of food the mouse ate as each different type of music was played. It was a very interesting project and it won the fair that year.

I saw one years ago that so impressed me.  Perhaps it will inspire you to come up with an original for your use:

The student used clear (rubbermaid-style) shoe boxes with lids.  He filled each one with potting soil.  Then he put different pieces of garbage in each one.  One, of course, was empty... the control, I suppose.  He also "watered" each one whenever it rained in our area... and he kept them outside so that the temp was consistent with the area's climate.  The point was to demonstrate how long things stayed in a landfill.  I was very impressed.
