I'm fairly new to the Fantasy Football scene, so ive been learning small tricks to the game as i go..

I learned the hard way last season that you need to have a reliable handcuff in case your star running back goes down mid season..I had Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis as my top 2 backs..When Larry went down mid season (and Portis wasnt doin too well) i had almost no production at RB even after i put Johnson's handcuff Kolby Smith in....

What are some of the best Handcuff pairs in the NFL to invest in this season??

  2. You don't always have to have a handcuff player. Another option is to have a third good running back. However, I would definitely look for C. Taylor to pair with A. Peterson and Mendenhall to pair with Parker.

I was looking at this chart from just before the start of the season last year: http://www.kffl.com/article/74094/500. It's interesting how many handcuffs that were identified turned out to either be the wrong guy (e.g., Denver, KC, GB, TB) or have little/no value (e.g., Wash, Car, Det, Atl).

  3. you want to look at offensive lines and overall offensive philosophy. previously, the gold standard was kansas city: they had the best o-line in history, and they always ran on goal line situations. this is why priest holmes/larry johnson almost invented the idea of handcuffing.

Imho, this situation doesn't really exist anymore. the top rb's last year got their td's from long, end-around runs, not short td situations. Probably the only one used like this was Joseph addai in indy.

Therefore, I think you are better off:

    a) just getting the best rb's you can

    b) getting possible platoon situations, like mendenhall/parker in pittsburg, anybody the broncos play, and any dallas rb's

    c) being fast on the waiver wire to pick up injury replacements. michael pittman in particular seems to always become the star after the starter goes down with an injury.

  4. I'd say Fred Taylor and M Jones-Drew
