  1. You might want to start with things that apply to a three and four and year olds life.  They will understand this better.  For instance, you can talk about their families, how many people are in it... brothers or sisters, etc. Then you could talk about what there Mom and Dad do at work, which you might get some funny answers for.  I am a preschool teacher and some children think that their parents play at work!  You could talk about what sharing is, and why we should do it with each other.  Then, you could ask them about what they like, favorite foods, toys, music, etc.  Things that apply to the children's lives will help them understand better.  I have the children make an all about me poster, and this is a good way for them to understand their social surroundings.

  2. OOH! i know this.

    DISNEY MOVIES!!!

they teach about different cultures, places, people, etc and it's fun :)

wow i miss those good old days.

i recommend Aladdin and Mulan for this.

  3. you could put on a play with your students, let them all dress up as a state and since they are 3-4, dont expect them to look up info on their state, let them just recite their states name and capital

  4. At this age focus on your neighborhood. Here are some ideas.

1 Occupations - Look at the different jobs people do and the clothes they wear. Ask questions like Why do bakers wear hats? What does a policeman do?

    2. What makes people different - Find people who are different from your child (older/ different race / gender / religion/ disability?), talk to them and dıscuss how they are different and the same as your child. eg Mrs Brown is old, but she likes books just like me.

I am good at running, Sarah is good at painting. We are both oldest children

    3. Places I go - Make a list of the places your child goes (ask him) eg Doctor, Jane's house, Grandma's, Library, Park, swimming pool, barber... Discuss what these places are for

4 My extended family - Help your child understand the relationships between people who are important to him. Make a picture wall of cousins, aunties, Grandparents siblings etc

5, My Heritage - teach your child traditions you grew up with, special foods, events etc. Tell them where their ancestors came from. Keep it simple.

    6. Why have rules - explain the importance of rules for society. Ask them what some rules are. If they get stuck hint about traffic lights, stop signs etc. Ask why we need rules (look at some specific ones eg. why should you wait in line) Ask them about your house rules. You could even make a chart of these.

eg. Pick up your toys when you have finished playing, Wash your hands before dinner.

I hope this is a good starting point

  5. You could help them become familiar with the shapes and names of the continents on the globe... especially since geography is such an undertaught subject these days.

  6. state games and gods and goddesses games
