I give western riding lessons and I am starting to get burnt out on the same ole drills.. I need some new ideas what will help the kids to become the better riders they want to be.. I am not looking for relay races and all that.. just some good solid drills and activities. thanks!

  1. i used to do limbo. u have two ppl hold long sticks and sit on a high place or 2 really tall horses and get the kids to go underneath and just the basic limbo rules

  2. Well I have one it was done sometime ago But I think it would =should come back again

    Square Dancing on horseback

IT;s really easy and fun to watch

  3. Have you consider drill team work? You have the kids do different patterns as a team in the ring.

For example, with everyone jogging on the outside, have every other horse speed up so they're jogging in pairs. Have them turn in pairs and go down the center line; when they reach the end have the one on the left peel off to the left, one on the right to the right. When they meet again at the far end, have them come down the center again.

It's hard to explain in words, but it can be a lot of fun and teaches them a whole lot about controlling their horses, thinking about what they're doing, and building their muscles and their skills.

This doesn't take ANY special equipment and can be made to match the class's riding level.

  4. I have seen square dancing it was soo much fun to watch

also just do some simple drills like they do in rodeo's
