  1. Anti fog goggles have been going in and out of style for quite awhile.  The coating on the lenses have a tendency to break down when exposed to chemicals such as chlorine and other environmental elements.

Spit does work but there is a health concern as you may transmit germs or viruses from your mouth to your eyes. Defogging solutions are still your best bet.  You do need to make sure that the defogging solution is suitable for your goggles though.  Do not use defogging solution designed for purposes other than goggles such as the ones used to keep windshields of cars or bathroom mirrors from fogging.  They usually say to use those solutions in a well ventilated area.

If you have goggles that have tempered glass lenses rather than plastic, then defog solutions designed for scuba diving masks are suitable.  Plastic lens goggles require a weaker version of the solutions used for scuba masks.

Whether you use spit or the appropriate defog solution, be aware that every time you take your goggles off, you will be losing some of the surfactant and you may have to reapply it.In closing make sure that you read and follow the directions.

  2. lol if you want something cheap, spit in your goggles and rub it in.

but if you want some real anti-fog then check out these websites since they're usually at swim meets selling their stuff.

    www.4swimwear.com

my honest opinion, it's probably not that necessary. I used to think it was too, but after a while i just ignored it and whenever i needed to clear it, i would just wipe it with my fingers and put it back on. so it all depends on you. It doesn't hurt to try them out because they're inexpensive so good luck!

  3. Anti-fog isn't all its cracked up to be. In my experience it will last about a month if if REALLY try to keep pool water away from the inside of the lens, after that the coating breaks down and the goggles fog up.  If you let pool water touch the inside of the goggles expect the anti-fog to last about a week.

There are anti-fog drops you can buy, it works pretty well. I usually get about an hour or so of fog free goggles with the drops and it works with any goggles.

The best thing you can do is get some baby oil and smear a little bit on the inside of the lens. I know other people that like olive oil, it works a little better but I like the baby oil more, it doesn't hurt if it gets in your eyes. All you need to do is create a barrier between the plastic  (or glass if you're using a diving mask) and condensation.

So what goggles are best? Its a matter of personal preference. I like Speedo speed sockets for meets, they are small and seal up well. Pretty comfortable and have good peripheral vision. but they are expensive, around $25  Many people like swedes (Swedish goggles with a hard plastic seal, no rubber), they are cheap, about $4 and seal up great on some people. They are really love em or hate em goggles. I have an indentation in my eye socket and I can't wear them, they just don't seal up on me.  TYR makes a pair of swedes with a rubber seal, That has been my goggle of choice for a while now. They seal up great and never give me any problems. If I lose them or they get broken, I only paid $6 for them, so they are almost disposable.

There are lots of other goggles out there, and different people like different ones. Find a swim shop that will let you try on a few different pairs and find what you like. and pick up a pair of $4 swedes while you're there and see if you can get used to them.
